Who doesn't love ponchos? In autumn, they are cozy and easy-to-wear garments that I really value. They are both functional and stylish. Would you like to make one yourself, but don't know where to start?
What if I showed you how to make a DIY poncho in less than 30 minutes? All you need is your favorite fabric and fabric scissors to create a beautiful poncho. Your friends and family will love your new look and may even ask you to make one for them!

How to make a poncho simply
Making your own poncho is quite easy. Today we will explain how to make a poncho in five simple steps that even a beginner can follow. It's a perfect project for beginners because it's so quick and so easy!
You can make your poncho with knitted fabric... and if you are not used to sewing with knits, it can be a bit daunting, but don't let that idea scare you! A good ballpoint needle and a stiffer, thicker knit will help you do things more easily.
Materials needed to make a poncho
- 1 piece of knit fabric measuring 70 x 140 cm
- A ballpoint needle (necessary for sewing knits)
Step 1: Wash and dry your fabric.
Cut it into a rectangle measuring 70 cm by 140 cm. For this, it is best to have a rotary cutter kit to save time rather than trying to do it with scissors and a ruler or something of the sort.

Step 2: Fold your fabric
In half, widthwise, with the right sides together, so that you get a square measuring 70 cm by 70 cm. Make sure the right sides are on the inside and the wrong sides are on the outside.
Step 3: Pin or clip
One of the sides perpendicular to the fold (not the opposite side).
Step 4: Sew along this side
Sewing 1.5 cm from the edge but stop 25 cm from the fold. Leave these 25 cm unsewn. Make sure to do a backstitch when you start and stop so that the seams are nice and strong.
Step 5: Fold the hem you just sewed over to one side of your seam.
Pin it and sew all along about 1.5 cm from the edge, making sure again to do a backstitch when you start and stop.
You now know how to make a poncho! Leave the bottom and neckline edges raw.

How to wear your handmade poncho?
Next comes the most fun part: wearing your DIY poncho in a unique and stylish way!
Wearing a loose poncho
The easiest way to wear the fleece poncho is to wrap it around your shoulders. The two cut pieces will hang in front, while the longer piece at the back will hang over your back.
The loose poncho is perfect as a cozy garment for outdoor walks. It is also perfect for a morning run to the cafe or a visit to the market.
The poncho can be worn without being tight, which gives it a cozy look. Take it with you for your next bonfire or your next moonlit walk.

Oversized poncho over the shoulder
You can style the poncho as an oversized scarf by simply throwing one of the ends over your shoulder. In this way, the poncho can serve as an extra layer of warmth on a particularly chilly day. Slip it over a stylish leather jacket and it will keep your neck nice and warm.
